St. Croix fishing rods differ from the pack of rods commonly using compound tapers with several transition points along the rod blank that are areas of weakness. St. Croix instead uses the trademarked and innovative IPC, or Integrated Poly Curve Tooling Technology, and ART, or Advanced Reinforcing technology. ART is an unusual material made of carbon fibers that multiplies the strength of a rod blank without increasing weight or diameter. IPC forms tapers that are an unbroken curve from the butt to the tip of the rod, eradicating flimsy transition spots. The two in combination make St. Croix fishing rods stronger, allow for remarkably smooth casts and provide superlative sensitivity.
St Croix fishing rods come in a wide array of styles and prices. The four main categories of rods they sell, with several hundred different rods within each category, are freshwater, saltwater, fly and, most recently, ice fishing rods. Their travel fishing rods are the least expensive, priced in the $30 range, but as well designed and high functioning as their higher end rod combinations, which can cost $300 or more. Due to their fishing rods’ top level of technology and precision fabrication, customers loyal to the brand St. Croix tend to be more serious anglers than amateur, and their best selling rods are also the costliest.
