Shimano Fishing Reel
A Shimano fishing reel is not only a high caliber piece of angling equipment, it is the product of an inspired individual who started a company committed to the preservation and the enjoyment of the natural world. Shimano was originally named Shimano Iron Works when formed in 1921 by the idealistic entrepreneur Shozaburu Shimano. His mission was to create the best products in the world for enjoying nature in the company of others, and experiencing all the happiness time spent outdoors brings.
Starting with precision-engineered bicycle free wheels, Shimano continued to produce an ever-expanding series of high quality bicycle gears and parts until 1970 when the fishing tackle division was created and Shimano fishing reels and rods became available. Since its inception, the president of the Shimano Company has been a direct descendant of Shozaburu Shimano, but that does not mean this is a small family business. In fact, Shimano is expanding its product line, acquisitions and international distribution to this day.
Although Shozaburu Shimano intended for his company’s products to help create a better world it is unlikely he had any idea a Shimano fishing reel would play a role in an organized crime investigation. Yet Angelo Mercurio, a member of the Patriarca Family in Massachusetts, was caught when shoplifting a Shimano fishing reel and to avoid prosecution subsequently became a prolific informant for the FBI.
Shimano fishing reels are durable, smooth, reliable, quiet, and easy to maintain. Excellent at long distance casting Shimano fishing reels are definitely worth their price as one will likely spend as much or more replacing cheaper reels that wear out more quickly.
