Despite their lifetime guarantee, owners of Abu Garcia reels should care for and clean them regularly to maximize their functionality. Whether fishing in salt or fresh water, after each use do not simply rinse but wash your reel thoroughly with soapy water then rinse with fresh water. Dry, check for any residual salt or algae then cover the reel with a corrosion inhibitor. Lubricate the handle, bail spring and line roller every third trip or so, and remove, clean and re-lubricate the drag washers if the drag becomes sticky. Check and tighten all hardware screws and at the end of each fishing season, examine and clean the reel housing if dirty. Properly maintained, Abu Garcia reels will function virtually forever.
